Yoplait And General Mills Are Really Pink!

With all the pink-labeled products lining grocery store shelves this month, you'd think that everything you buy would support breast cancer awareness philanthropies in some way.
And you'd be wrong.
The sad fact is, any company can slap a pink ribbon logo on their packaging without donating a penny to breast cancer causes. If this bothers you, it pays to verify which companies are actually making charitable donations - and whether you have to buy a product to contribute. To get you started, here are two of the most generous breast cancer awareness programs in the grocery aisle...

Yoplait: Save Lids to Save Lives®

For every pink lid redeemed by December 31, 2011, Yoplait will donate 10¢ to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®  - up to $2 million. You can redeem your lid instantly online or by mail; "Like" Yoplait's Facebook page to donate another 10¢. All the details are available online: Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives.

General Mills' Pink Together® Program

General Mils' Pink Together program is donating $2 million to Susan B. Komen for the Cure. And, you don't have to buy a thing to direct how $1 million of that donation will be spent! Now through April 14, 2012,  simply go online to the company's Facebook page and register your program preference for breast cancer treatment assistance or prevention research. Final votes will determine how the $1 million donation will be divided; results announced on Mother's Day, 2012. While there, send an online Pink Together e-card to a friend for another $1 donation up to $25,000 (Facebook account is required for voting): General Mills' Pink Together program.

You've Got The Power: Donate To Volunteer Firefighters with Duracell

Do gloomy headlines, rude telemarketers, the price of gas and dings on all the oranges at the grocery have you down? Well, here's a day brightener:  there are 812,150 Americans out there right now who have willingly volunteered to put their own lives in danger -- to risk death -- just to keep you safe! That's right: according to statistics from the National Volunteer Fire Council, volunteers make up a whopping 71% of the estimated 1,148,100 firefighters in the U.S. And, you can now make a significant contribution to these selfless folks just by buying batteries, through Duracell's "Power Those Who Protect Us" program.

Here's how it works: each time you buy a specially marked pack of CopperTop batteries, Duracell will make a battery donation to a volunteer fire department. Those batteries are necessary to keep communication devices and life-saving equipment up and running. You can even direct your donation to your fire station of choice by visiting the Duracell web site and entering a unique code found on the battery pack.

More information on the "Power Those Who Protect Us" program is available at the Duracell web site  - www.duracell.com  - and from the National Volunteer Fire Council -  www.nvfc.org.
